Perhaps I cycled more last week than any other week. My little Tansaurus was ill for the second time in Newcastle. He had his first fever when he was 13 months old but that was just fever. Five ml of Calpol (paracetamol suspension) would solve the problem.
This time was bad. He was basically crying non stop for hours and reject both liquid and solid. He was't sleeping well at night, so do we. To make things worse, he clings on his mom the whole day through. We didn't know what puts him in such agony.
We wished he could just utter a word or two to tell us where is painful.
We wished we were in Kuching where family members can at least help out a bit. Living far far away from other family members isn't great. It means no support at all.
Depression soon kicks in with the winter weather. Well, I could have stayed home the whole day to help to look after him but my University commitment just not allowing me to do so. So, I cycled home to see my darlings during my incubation time. Cycling is healthy but tiring. If someone tells you that you won't sweat when you cycle in cold climate, ask him to try to cycle just from Newcastle University campus to Fenham. Unlike people who stayed in Gosforth or Jesmond, cycling is enjoyable and less tiring because the terrain is relatively even (as long as you know how to manipulate the gears). Fenham on the other hand is on a hill, no gearing knowledge is necessary as I kept them on gear 1 and 1 all the way uphill.
Somehow I have the tendency to stay on a hill. I stayed in Excelsa Apartment in Taman University, Seri Kembangan when I was an undergraduate student but I was riding a Suzuki TZM 150 powered by unleaded petrol but here, I'm cycling a Magna full suspension mountain bike powered by breakfast and lunch driven legs.
After a while, I suspected that little Tansaurus had a throat infection due to the sound of phlegm. No wonder he wasn't eating or drinking. My wife took him to the clinic on the 2nd day of onset but the GP prescribed calpol and ibuprofen AGAIN. Sometimes I just wonder why people have to spend 5 years in the medical school just to sit in a clinic just to prescribe these on the shelf drugs. There should be a short course for someone to become a GP. After all, they prescribe common drugs only. Serious stuff would be referred to the hospital.
Calpol and ibuprofen works for a while but offers reasonable relief to little Tansaurus.
We force him to drink barley and somehow it helps. He is drinking ribena now. Nen nen is still not part of his normal diet. Hmmm. I can feel that he is lighter now. Of course, 3 days without proper diet but I'm just thankful that he is drinking now.

Poor boy. Sore throat is a nightmare for little babies! Hey, give him some ice cream, it actually helps soothe him and at least he fills his stomach a bit.
